Awning-deck-ship

— Awning-deck-ve el. A one two or three deck iron or steel steamer, having a light superstructure fitted from end to end above the main-deck for the stowage of light goods, or for the accommodation of pa engers. The scantlings of the material forming the main-body of the ve el, are the same, whether an awning-deck is erected or not; for instance, two ve els being of the same length and breadth, one of them having two decks only, viz: upper and lower-deck, with a depth of 21 feet; — the other having three decks viz; awning-deck, main-deck, and lower-deck, with a depth to the main-deck equal to that just stated, 21 feet; and to the awning deck 28 feet; — the main-body of the awning-deck-ship i. e: everything below the superstructure; keel, stem, stern-post, floors, frames, plating, etc., would not be heavier than in the ve el with two decks only.
