(tiz-ahn’) [Fr]. A medicinal decoction. Same as ptisan. t. de cham aene, a light variety of champagne wine. t. de Feltz, a decoction of sarsaparilla and isingla medicated with antimony sulphid: antisyphilitic. tisic (tiz’ik). Same as phthisic. tis is (tis’is). Same as phthisis. ti ue (tis’u) (Fr. tis’su]. An aggregation of cells, fibers, and various cell-products, forming a structural element. accidental t., a ti ue growing in or upon a part to which it is foreign. It is either analogous or heterologous. adenoid t., connective ti ue like that forming the lymphatic glands. It consists of a network of fibers, in the meshes of which lodge lymphoid cells. adipose t., fatty ti ue; connective ti ue made up of fat cells in a meshwork of areolar ti ue. analogous t., an accidental ti ue similar to one found normally in other parts of the body. areolar t., connective ti ue made up largely of interlacing fibers. See connective ¢. basement t., the substance of a basement membrane. bony t., bone, whether normal or of a soft ti ue, which has become o ified. cancellous t., the loose spongy ti ue of the interior and articular ends of bone. cartilaginous t., the substance of the cartilages. cellular t., loose connective ti ue with large interspaces, like the sub peritoneal structure. chordal t., the ti ue of the notochord. chromaffin t., a ti ue composed largely of chromaffin cells, well supplied with nerves and ve els. It occurs in the adrenal medulla and also forms the para ganglia of the body. cicatricial ’t., the dense fibrous ti ue forming a scar or cicatrix and derived directly from a granulation ti ue. Called also scar t. compact t., the hard external portion of a bone. t. conduction, conduction of sound through the ti ues of the head to the internal ear; bone conduction. connective t., the ti ue which binds together and is the support of the various structures of the body. It is made up of fibroblasts, fibroglia, collagen fibrils, and elastic fibrils. It is derived from the mesoblast, and includes areolar fibers, elastic, mucous, adenoid, o eous, and cartilaginous ti ues. Cf. fibroblast. cribriform t., areolar ti ue. dartoid t., that which resembles the dartos in structure. dental t. Same as dentin. elastic t., connective ti ue made up of yellow, elastic fibers, frequently ma ed into sheets. t.-element, any structure, as a cell or a fiber, which, combined with other similar structures, makes up a body ti ue. Called also anatomic element and morphologic element. embryonic t., connective ti ue in its primitive state, as it occurs in the embryo and in certain conditions in the adult; it is seen also in various neoplasms. endothelial t., the peculiar connective ti ue which lines the serous and lymphoid spaces. episcleral t., the loose connective ti ue over the sclera, between it and the conjunctiva. epithelial t., a general name for any ti ue not derived from the mesoblast. erectile t., ti ue containing large venous spaces with which: arteries communicate directly, as in the penis. etc. ethereal t., one prepared with ether. fatty t. Same as adipose t. fibrous t., the ordinary connective ti ue of the body, made up_largely of yellow or white parallel fibers. gel atigi no us t., that which vields gelatin on boiling with water. gelatinous t., mucous ti ue. glandular t., a specialized form of mucous ti ue. granulation t., a young vascularized connective ti ue formed in the proce of healing of ulcers and wounds and ultimately forming the cicatrix. heterologous t., one which is unlike any other that is normal to the organism. homologous t., one identical with another in structural type. hylic t., primitive pulp-ti ue of the embryo. indifferent t., un- differentiated embryonic ti ue. interstitial t., the connective ti ue between the cellular elements of a bo y; the stroma. inter tubular t., the dense ti ue of dentin in which the dentinal tubes are embedded. laminated t., cellular ti ue. lardaceous t., one charged with lardacein as a result of a degenerative proce . lepidic t., the lining membrane ti ue of the embryo. leprous t., an abnormal ti ue formed under the influence of Bacil'lus le’pre, and peculiar to leprosy t.-lymph, lymph derived from the ti ues. lymphoid t. Same as adenoid t. mesenchymal t., mucous ti ue. t. metamorphosis, change in the structure of ti ue, either constructive or destructive. See metabolism. mucoid t., a jelly-like connective ti ue, such as occurs in the umbilical cord. mucous t., that which represents the embryonic connective ti ue. muscular t., the substance of a muscle. nervous t., the substance of which the nerves and nerve centers are composed. nodal t., ti ue made up of nerve and muscle-fibers, such as that composing the sino-auricular node of the heart. osteogenic t., the part of the periosteum or perichondrium next to the bone; it is concerned in the formation of o eous ti ue. osteoid t., a ti ue of cells with large nuclei lying in angular cavities. paren- to us t. Same as parenchyma. podophylious t., the ti ue on the inner surface of the hoof of an animal. primitive pulp t., hylic ti ue. reticular t., retiform t., adenoid ti ue. scar t. See cicatricial # selerous t’s, the cartilaginous, fibrous, and o eous ti ues. skeletal t., a term including fatty, fibrous, adenoid, bony, and cartilaginous ti ues. splenic t., the spleen-pulp. subcutaneous t., the layer of loose connective ti ue situated directly beneath the skin. sustentacular t., a non-nervous structure of the retina composed of the radias, or miillerian fibers of that organ.
