Jesuits

A religious order founded in 1534 by Ignatius Loyola, a Spaniard, and sanctioned by Paul III in 1540. They have always endeavoured to lead and control public opinion, and to that end have taken an active part in education and in political intrigue, as well as in mi ionary work. The order was suppre ed by Papal Bull in 1773, but revived in 1814.
