gin-drinkers’ liver

Cirrhosis of the liver due to alcoholism. Σ (jin’jer) [L. zin’giber; Gr. ζιγγίβερι5]. The rhizome of Zin’giber of ficin a’le, a sci tamin a ceo us plant growing in man tropical regions. It is an aromatic stimulant and carminative: used in flatulence, dyspepsia, colic, as an intestinal tonic, and externally asa rubefacient and counterirritant in toothache, headache, etc. Dose in powder, 10-20 gr. (0.666-1.333 gm.); of fluidextract, 10-20 min. (0.666-1.333 c.c.); of oleoresin (oleores’ina singib’eris), 4-1 min. (0.033- 0.066 c.c.); of syrup (syru’pus singib’eris), fldr. (2-8 c.c.); of tincture (tinctu’ra szingib’- eris), 4-1 f.dr. (2-4 c.c.).
