Certain acknowledged rules, regulations and precepts, which relate to war, and are observed by all civilized nations. The Law of Arms shows how to proclaim war, to attack the enemy, and to punish offenders in the camp, etc. Law of Error. — In gunnery, the points of fall in a group of shots cluster about the center of impact according to a law known as the law of errors. This law is expre ed by a mathematical equation from which a table of probability factors is calculated.' Law of Nations. — Such general rules as regard the Emba ies, reception and entertainment of strangers, intercourse of merchants, exchange of prisoners, suspension of arms, etc.
