Homology

Similarity in e ential structure, origin, and relations; opposed to analogy, which is only superficial similarity of structure, due to similarity of function. Homologous organs may look very unlike, owing to differences in their function. The arm of man and the wing of a bird are homologous; so, also, are the hands and the feet of any person; but this is distinguished as serial homology or homodynamy.
