pl. [NL., Pent a ceros (-cerot-) + -idæ.] 1. A family of starfishes, named by J. E. Gray in 1840 from the genus Pent a ceros.-2. A family of fishes, typified by the genus Pent a ceros . Pen tace rot in a (pen-ta-ser-ō-ti' nä), n. pl. [NL., Pent a ceros ( -cerot- ) + -ina2.] In Günther's cla ification, the third group of Percidæ : same as the family Pentacerotidæ . pent achenium (pen-ta-kē'ni-um), n.; pl. pent a chenia (-a). [NL., πέντε , five, + NL. achenium, q. v.] In bot ., a five-celled fruit otherwise like a cremocarp.
