Menander

(me-nan'dür,) a Greek comic and dramatic poet, B. at Athens, 341 B. c. studied under Theophrastus, and excelled in the delineation of existing life and manners. He was the friend of Epicurus, and maybe said to have founded the new and more natural comedy. His works (which Terence has imitated) are lost to the moderns. [s. 591]
