HART, D.D., 1791-1868. Poet and historian; prof. Oxford 1821-31; Dean of St. Paul's, London, 1849. Fazio, 1815; Samor, 1818; Fall of Jerusalem, 1820; Martyr of Antioch, 1822; Belshazzar, 1822. His History of the Jews, 1829, of Christianity (to ab. 325), 1840, and of Latin Christianity, 6 v., 1854-56, were the first English works of the kind written in a strictly unpartisan and scientific spirit.
