sudoriferous glands

pl. Anat.: Glands which secrete or excrete perspiration; sweat glands. They are found in varying numbers, in most parts of the skin. Each gland consists of a long tube coiled into a knot near the closed end, which is situated in the cutaneous cel. lular ti ue and constitutes the gland proper, and a straight, undulate, or spiral duct traversing the skin perpendicularly, to terminate upon its surface between the papille. Krause estimated that nearly 2.800 exist on a square inch of the palm of the hand, and 400 to 600 on an equal space of the back and lower limbs. Called also Sudoriparous glands.
