Variety

(vah-ri'e-te.) [From L. varietas.] (Nat. Hist.) A technical term applied to a race of animals and plants that differ from the type by constant characters. Intermediate links connect the aberrant forms with the normal ones, otherwise the race would take rank as a distinct species. [s. 930]
