Saber

— A heavy sword, with which cavalry and dragoons are armed. The back is thick, that a blow may carry the more force, and also to render the weapon useful in the rough thrust of the cavalry charge. A saber is occasionally curved at the point, in the form of a scimitar. Also written sabre.
