VANDEVEER, M.D., LL.D., 1829-1887. Prof. of Mineralogy and Geology Univ. Pa. 1865-72; engaged 1853-78 in the exploration of the Rocky Mountain region and Laramie district, the geysers of the Yellow stone, the Tertiary lake areas of the West, and the Bad Lands of Nebraska. Much of the material that he collected has been worked out by Leidy, Meek, White, Lesquereux, and Cope. Hayden, Mr., or GRAND TETON. Peak in w. Wyoming, a noted landmark in early days. Altitude 13,691 ft.
