um'plr, n. A 3d person, to whose sole dec is- ion a controversy or question between parties referred. (Law.) [AS. un-, D. ont-, G. ent-, OHG. ant-, •Goth, and-; Gr. anti-, in opposition to.] — In the case of past participles, 2 words of like spellings, but different signification, are often formed by use of the 2 prefixes, as, undone (fr. undo), unfastened, ruined, undone (fr. un & done), not done, unfinished.
