(Sultaun.) \n hra.\nc, mighty. Various Mohammedan princes are styled by this title besides the Ottoman emperor or grand sultan, to whom it is commonly given by Europe ans, but whose peculiar title of Padishah is more dignified. The princes of the deposed family of the khan of the Crim Tartars are also styled sultan: so also the pacha of Egypt in that country, although not by the court of Constantinople. [s. 1205]
