HOLMES, OLIVER WENDELL

(1841), an American jurist, 6. in Boston. He graduated from Harvard in 1861 and after service in the Civil War in which he was wounded, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1866. For many years he was profe or of law at Harvard, and from 1899 to 1902 was chief justice of the Supreme Court of Ma achusetts.
