pent a stoma

[Pref. pent a-, and Gr. stoma =a mouth.] Zool .: A genus of Entozoa, family Acaride, sometimes placed in a separate order, A can tho theca. The body is segmented, the head armed with four large hooks or claws, arranged in pairs on each side of the mouth. These hooks were mistaken by the older naturalists for ad. ditional mouths, and procured for the animal its generic name. Pent a stoma denticulatum , the larval condition of P. tænioides , Head of Pentas which infests the nasal cavities tom a Tænioides. of the dog, is tolerably frequent in human subjects in Europe, but causes no functional disturbance. (See extract under PENT AS TO ME.) pěn'-ta-stōme, subst. [PENT A STOMA.] Any individual of the genus Pent a stoma (q. v.). "The other human pent as to me , Pent a stoma constrictum, infests the liver and lungs, and, on account of its comparatively large size, is capable of giving rise to serious and even fatal symptoms.
