Alexander Hill, an American diplomatist, born at Boston in 17$2, died at Canton in 1847. After studying at Harvard, in 1809 he aceompanied John Quincy Adams to St. Petersburg (Petrograd) as Secretary of Legation. He afterwards filled sucee ive diplomatic posts in the Netherlands, Spain, and elsewhere. He was the author, amongst other works, ef Hurope, or a General Survey of the Present Situation of the Principal Powers (1822); and a similar work on America.
