Art; devised novel system of teaching harmony through ear-training; author of “Aural Harmony. Louis, (rd’/-bin), (1) Alfred Mo., 29, G., St. 1860—New York, Oct. 18, 1935; son of (2) Wm. R. (who organised the first symph. orch. west of Pittsburgh); at 10 A. succeeded his father as organist at St. John’s Church; at 16 solo-pianist with Emma Abbott’s Co.; prod. ‘Jacinta’; c. pf.concerto, etc., also pop. songs (incl. “Answer’’), etc. Roc’ca, Lodovico, b. Turin, Nov. 29, 1895; composer; studied Milan Cons.; doctorate, Turin Univ., 1920; won hon. diploma from Parma Cons. operatic competition; also prizes offered by Music a e Music i, Milan, and Italian Music League, N. Y.; c. (opera) “JI Dibuk” (after Anski drama), which had a striking succ. at Milan and Rome, and was given in N. Y., Chicago and Detroit (in English tr.) by Civic Op. Co. of last named city, 1936; also considerable music for orch., among which the suite ‘‘Chiaroscuri” and the poem “Ta Cella Azzurra’”’ have had frequent hearings; and many chamber music works.
