apophyge (apofije)

[NL. (ef. F. apo phyge, L. apophygis ), low or scotia beneath the echinus of the Doric capital, occurring in some archaic examples, and relinquished as the style advanced. Also called apophysis and congé. apophyllite (a-pof'i-lit or ap-o-fil'it), n. [So named because of its tendency to exfoliate (cf. Gr. ἀποφυλλίζειν, strip of its leaves), called ichthyophthalmite, that is, fish-eye stone. It is a hydrated silicate of calcium and pota ium, containing also some fluorin.
