albugineous tunic

The same as ALBUGINEA (Q.V.). -bu-gō, s. [Lat. albugo = (1) a disease of the eye; albugo = film: (2) pl ., seurf on the head.] Mel.: A white speck on the eyes, called by Dr. Wallis the albuginous , or pearly corneal speck. Other names given to it have been speck , applied when it is seated superficially; dragon, when it is deeper; and pearl , when it somewhat projects. It arises from a chronic inflammation of the eye.
