(pre-lim'e-na-re.) [ From L. præ, before, and limen, the threshold.] In general, denotes something to be examined and determined before an affair can be treated effectually. The preliminaries of peace consist chiefly in settling the powers of amba adors, and points which may be in dispute must be determined previous to the treaty itself. [s. 729]
