iodocaoutchin

[Pref. iodo-, and English caoutchin (q. v.).] Chem.: C10H16 13. A brownish-black oil produced when caoutchin is added to an aqueous, or alcoholic solution of iodine. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol and ether. When distilled, it gives off hydriodic acid; but when heated with an acid or an alkali, it is rapidly decomposed. cinchonine (q. v.).1
