[s. 219] : A town near Colon on the Isthmus of Panama, Station of the Jamaica Baptist Mi ionary Union (1900), with 1 mi ionary, preaching centers and 2 Sunday schools. 2 CUMBER LAND PRESBYTERIAN Board of Mi ions and Church Erection (1852) As early as 1818 the Cumber land Presbyterian Church sent evangelists among the Chick a saw Indians, which resulted in a mi ion being established among them in 1820. In 1845 a board was organized for carrying on the Home Mi ionary work of the Church and in 1852 a similar organization was formed for the foreign work. In 1857 the Rev. Edmund Weir was sent to Work Liberia, where he remained for ten years. in Turkey was undertaken in 1860, and the Rev. J. C. Armstrong was sent to Constantinople, but owing to troubles at home arising from the civil war, he was recalled. In 1873 work was commenced on the island of Trinidad, and was continued for several years. The Board now carries on work as follows; 1. The Woman’s Board of Mi ions of the Cumber land Presbyterian Church was organized in 1880 for the purpose of cooperating with the general Board.
