Gun Platform
Chandler's Encyclopedia · 1898 · p. 16
Substructure on which the gun-carriage rests. For field pieces in garrison and siege pieces in position, the platform consists of strong thick planks in close contact, resting on heavy subsill pieces securely fastened. For the heavier seacoast artillery the platforms are built of solid ma es of concrete and masonry, sufficiently durable to withstand the powerful shocks to which modern guns are subjected.
