EQUINOX

a term used in astronomy’ to denote either one of the two points at which the sun in its apparent annual course among the stars cro es the equator. It is‘so called because the days and nights are nearly equal, when the sun is at these points. The vernal or spring equinox occurs about March 20th; the autumnal equinox occurs about Sept: 23rd. When but one equinox is referred to, the vernal equinox is meant.
