Fovea

(fo-ve’-ah) [L., a small pit]. A small depre ion or pit. Applied to many depre ions in the body, but more particularly to the fovea central is retinae, a little pit in the macula lutea, opposite the visual axis, the spot of most distinct vision. F. hem i elliptic a, a small depre ion on the inner wall of the labyrinth. It is perforated for the pa age of filaments of the auditory nerve.
