C. by the Emperor Chi-Hwang-Ti, to protect the empire from invasion by the northern barbarians; ab. 25 ft. wide at base and 15 at top, IMG:content-0858.jpg:[graphic][merged small] varying in ht. from 15 to 30 ft. The sides are of granite (at bottom) and brick, the interspace being filled with earth and rubble. Length ab. 1,500 m., in a straight line 1,255 m.
