BEMBIDIUM

A name applied by Latreille to a genus of Coleopterous insects, of the tribe Carabidm. Now raised to the rank of a family (Bembidiidai), including the genera Lymneiun 1, Cillenum 1, Tuchys 8, Pldloclithus 6, Ocys 3, Peryphus 10. Notaphus'J, Sopha 11, TachypusS, Bembidium proper 4: the figures refer to the number of indigenous species in each of the genera. The common characters of the group are, cubits notched, elytra rounded at the extremity, abdomen not pedicellate, external maxillary palpi terminated by a very minute and acute joint, antenna? sub elongate. The Bembidiidai are generally found in low and damp situalions, are of very small size, and glitter with polished metallic colours. [s. 156]
