sulphomelionic

[Pref. sulpho-, and Eng mellonic.] Derived from or containing sulphydric acid and mellone. sulphomellonic-acid, s. Chem. C3H4N4S2=CyH2 N2(CyHS). Obtained as a pota ium salt by boiling persulphocyanogen with sulphydrate of pota ium. It is separated from sulphur by treatment with aqueous ammonia and afterward purified by animal charcoal. It forms small colorle needles, tastele , nearly insoluble in cold water, alcohol, and ether, but slightly soluble in boiling water. It is monobasic, the pota ium salt, C3N4H3KS2, forming colorle shining prisms soluble in water and alcohol. sul-pho-me-thyl-ic, adj. [Pref. sulpho-, and Eng. methylic.] Derived from or containing sul phuric acid and methyl. sulphomethylic-acid, s. Chem.: (CH3)HSO4. Methyl sulphuric acid, produced when one part of wood spirit is added to two parts of sulphuric acid, and obtained pure by decomposing its barium salt with sulphuric acid. It forms colorle needles soluble in water and alcohol, and combines with the alkaline and metallic bases to form salts. The barium salt, (CH3)2Ba (SO4)2+2OH2, is obtained in beautiful nacreous tables or lam inæ, very soluble in water.
