(pum-gran’et) [L. po’mum grana’- tum grained apple]. The myrtaceous tree, Ps’- nica grana’tum, and its fruit. The root-bark (granatum, or cortex grana’ta rad i’cis) and the bark of the tree contain pelleticrin, isopelletierin, and punicotannic acid, and are useful teniacides, especially. for tapeworm. Dose of decoction, 4 fl.oz. (120 c.c.). The rind of the fruit (grana’ti fruc’tus cor’ tex) is actively astringent, and is used in diarrhea, leukorrhea, hemorrhage, and relaxation of the pharynx.
