Fr. acide azo benzine-disulfonique. Ger., Azobenulfonsäure. ‘A dibasic acid, C,2H,0N28205 = C,H,(S0,.0H)— N — C,H,(SO2.0H). Two isomeric acids of this formula, a ad. acid and ß a’d. acid, are formed by heating a. with fuming sulphuric acid. The former, united with 1 molecule of water of crystallization, forms red deliquescent acicular crystals; the latter forms asyrup. Metaa’d. acid, another isomeric form, united with 3 molecules of water of crystallization, forms yellowish deliquescent prismatic crystals. Paraa'd. acid, formed by the oxidation of sulph an i lie acid, is another isomer. [B, 3.]—A’meta phenylene diamine. Fr., azo benzine-métaphényléne-diamine. Ger., Azo benzol meta phenyl end i am in.
