Assassin

Fanatical religious order founded in Persia ab. 1090. The fifth grade, Fedavies (devoted), were candidates of whom blind obedience was exacted; after being intoxicated with hashish, they were sent upon secret commi ions. During the crusades they mustered 50,000 men. See HASHISH.
