Haplomi

Group of physostome fishes, including forms with abdominal pelvic fins, teeth in the jaws, and no pre coracoid arch. Here belong the Blindfishes of caves ( Amblyopsida ), the Top-Minnows or Toothed-Minnows ( Cyprinodontida ), in which the sexes are so unlike as to have been frequently taken for separate species, and the Pikes ( Esocida ), including the Pickerel and Muskallunge. The last may attain a length of six feet or more. It differs from the Lake Pike or Pickerel in having the lower part of the cheeks scalele . There are two common pickerels on the Atlantic slope, the larger or Green Pike, and the smaller, the Banded Pickerel.
