Phæācia

, an island of the Ionian sea, near the coast of Epirus, anciently called Scheria , and afterwards Corcyra . The inhabitants, called Phæaces , were a luxurious and di olute people, from which reason a glutton was generally stigmatized by the epithet of Phæax . When Uly es was shipwrecked on the coast of Phæacia, Alcinous was then king of the island, whose gardens have been greatly celebrated.
