[Pers. ba'tman.] A weight used in Persia and Turkey, and varying in weight according to the locality. I. In Persia, the batman usually weighs from 6 lbs. to 10 lbs. avoirdupois. II. In the Turkish Empire: 1. At Smyrna and Aleppo it usually contains 6 okes, or 400 drachms = about 17 lbs. avoirdupois. 2. In the other parts of the Turkish empire there are two batmans: (a) The greater batman = about 157 lbs. avoirdupois; (b) the le er batman = about 39 lbs. avoirdupois.
