Laodicea

(la-o-de-se'ah.) (Anc. Geog.) The name of several cities in the ancient Syrian empire, which were so called after wives and daughters of the Seleucidæ, called Laodice. The one in Phrygia, near the river Lycos, mentioned several times in the New Testament, is the best known. [s. 527]
