COMMUTATION

In Astronomy, the angle of commutation of a planet is the angle formed at the earth by a straight line drawn from the earth to the sun and the orthographical projection on the plane of the ecliptic of the straight line which joins the earth with the planet. It is measured by the difference between the sun's longitude and the geocentric longitude of the planet. [s. 275]
