persiflage (ge zh)

[Fr., from persifler = treatment of any subject serious or otherwise; light raillery. One who indulges in persiflage; a banterer, a quiz. per-sim-môn, për-sim-ön, subst. [A Virgin i an Indian word.] Bot.: Diospyros virgin i an a , a tree sixty feet or more in height, with ovate, oblong, taper-pointed, shining leaves, pale yellow flowers, and an orange colored succulent fruit an inch or more in diameter; very astringent when green, but eatable when sin, as; expect, Xenophon, exist. ph = f. persis bletted. It grows plentifully in the Southern and South Atlantic States. The fruit is brewed into beer, and yields an ardent spirit on distillation. [DIOSPYROS.] per'-sis, s . (Gr.
