Staff Corps of U.S. army under one chief (Brigadier-general), charged with procuring and distributing the nece ary ordnance supplies for the Government, and care of arsenals and depots for their manufacture and safe keeping. The arsenals and depots are at Allegany, Pa.; August a, Ga.; Benicia, Cal.; Columbia, Tenn.; Fort Monroe, Va.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Indianapolis, Ind.; August a, Me.; Governor's Island, N.Y.; Rock Island, Ill.; San Antonio, Texas; Sandy Hook Proving Ground, N. J.; Springfield, Ma .: St. Louis Powder Depot, Mo.; U. S. Powder Depot at Dover, N. J., Water town, Ma ., and West Troy, N.Y. During the fiscal year ending June 30, 1893, the expenditures were $3,702,000.
