Inertia

One of the e ential properties of matter. The name has been given to explain the observed phenomenon that matter resists an impulse which tends to change or arrest the direction of its motion, or to arrest it, or to start it moving from rest. It is proportional to the ma of a body. The moment of inertia of a revolving body is the product of its weight into the square of its RADIUS OF GYRATION (q.v.). -As applied to mental phenomena, incapacity of initiating motion.
