Born at Wiehe, Thu ring i a, Germany, Dec. 21, 1795: died at Berlin, May 23, 1886. A celebrated German historian. He was educated at Leipsic; became ex- traordinary profe or of history at Berlin in 1825, ord i- nary profe or in 1834, and historiographer of Pru ia in 1841; and retired from his profe orship in 1871.
