Inflammation of the inner coat of an artery, acute e. Inflammation of the intima from trauma, infective thrombi, syphilis, and pyogenic bacteria, aortic e. A form of chronic e. characterized by progre ive thickening of the intima by the formation of connective ti ue, leading to stenosis and even complete closure of the lumen, e. syphilitic a.
