Allotropy

—The power po e ed by certain elements of existing in nature in more than one form. Carbon exists as the diamond, graphite and charcoal. Oxygen has an allotropic form as ozone, in which the atoms are condensed; phosphorus is also existent in two very distinct forms, the yellow and red, whose properties vary widely.
