(klēr.) (Arch.) Extent of internal work; as, a corridor 100 feet in the clear.-(Com.) To clear a ship. See CLEARANCE.-(Naut.) To clear the land, is to get well out to sea, in order to give the land a wide berth and so avoid the risk of grounding. [s. 195]
