Sir Christoffel Joseph ( son of Johannes Henricus Brand, member of Court of Justice in Cape Colony ). b. 1797; ed. at Leyden, doctor in philosophy and law 1820; admitted advocate in Court of Justice, Cape of Good Hope 1821; member of legislative council 1850; speaker of house of a embly 1854 to death; knighted by patent 24 May 1860. d. 20 May 1875.
