HEMORRHAGE

(Yunanca köken — orijinale bakınız.) A bleeding or flow of blood. This may arise from two causes: either a full state of the ve els, or plethora, when it has been called active hemorrhage; or from a debilitated state of the ve els, or of the system generally, when it is called pa ive hemorrhage. When haemorrhage occurs from either of these causes, it usually requires methods of treatment adapted to the particular case. Where haemorrhage is the consequence of wounds, the bleeding ve els must be secured by ligature; or where this cannot be done, stvptic applications are applied. [s. 556]
