A stiffening matter much used in the manufacture of inferior hats. It is made of 9 pounds of shellac, di olved with 18 ounces of sal soda in 3 gallons of water. J. Thom son, Hats and Felting. alkalizable (al'ka-li-za-bl), a. [ alkalize + -able.] Capable of being alkalized.
