(Lat.), n. f. I(e)'va3(wa3). Fr., i., ive. 1. The Achillea moschata. 2. Marsh elder, high water shrub, a genus of composite herbs or shrubs, by Bentham and Hooker referred to the tribe Helianthoidece. The Ivacene of Reichenbach are a subdivision of the Ambrosiacece, consisting of this single genus. The Ivece of Ca ini are a division of the Ambrosiece, containing Clibadium (subsequently excluded) and Iva; or, of De Candolle, a division of the Melampodinece, consisting of Iva, Euphro.tyne, and several other genera; or, of Reichenbach, a subdivision of the Dispositce; or, of Lindley, a subtribe of the Senecionidece, consisting of the genera of De Candolle and, in addition, Gymnogyne. A shrubby species found in North America on the borders of salt marshes. In Mexico it is considered a febrifuge, and is known as acapatli or quinquina del pat's.
