Puddling

(půd'dling.) (Metall.) A proce in the manufacture of iron effected by stirring the melted metal with an iron rod in order to bring it into contact with the air and free it from carbon.-(Civ. Engin.) The proce by which the walls of wells, canals, ., are made impervious to water by being lined with clay or stiff loam. [s. 740]
